Sydney Harbour Bridge & Opera House Manly Beach

Sydney's New Year's Eve party is as famous the world over as the city itself and its New Year's Eve fireworks display is the best in the world - after all, one billion people can't be wrong. With a new theme created each year, the amazing pyrotechnic extravaganza that see's in the start of every year is watched by 1.6 million visitors on the Sydney Harbour foreshore, 2.3 million across the nation and millions around more around the globe via a television broadcast.

The world-famous fireworks display is backed by glittering Sydney Harbour and the 2013 theme 'Shine' is inspired by the sparkling waters of the harbour, the glow of the Sydney sun and of course the brilliance of the fireworks spectacular. With each New Year comes a new theme and a new Creative Ambassador who uses their ideas, creativity and vision to bring the new theme and the year's unique celebration to life.

This year, Reg Mombassa has been selected as Creative Ambassador to bring his imaginative and original art and music to the celebration. Renowned for its distinctive style of art, Reg Mombassa is best known for its designs for the Mambo clothing label and for his musical contributions to pop bands Dog Trumpet and Mental as Anything.

2013's Sydney New Year's Eve will be a journey through the theme of Shine and will take you through Reg's vision of Sydney's greatest landmarks, villages and harbour. Without giving away the surprise, it's safe to say that this year's celebrations have been well and truly Mombassified!

Celebrations will include a family fireworks display at 9pm as well as a spectacular fireworks display at midnight to ring in the New Year. The city also offers a great range of events and entertainment throughout the night including aerial acrobatics, the Harbour of Light Parade and traditional ceremonies that celebrates Sydney's rich Torres Strait Islander and Aboriginal heritage and culture.

Whether you're lucky enough to take in this visually stunning celebration from one of the many vantage points on the harbour foreshore or whether you're tuning in to the television broadcast, there's no better way to see in the New Year than with Sydney's iconic New Year's Eve spectacular.
